Mushahid Syed is the Malaysia CFO at Standard Chartered Bank, where he is responsible for financial strategy, balance sheet, capital allocation and regulatory engagement for both Standard Chartered Bank Malaysia Berhad (SCBMB) and Standard Chartered Saadiq Berhad (SCSB).

He brings over 20 years of experience in banking/finance, with deep expertise in Financial Markets valuation, balance sheet optimisation, and capital efficiency. In his current role, Mushahid has led the following high-impact initiatives including:

  • Releasing 25% trapped balance sheet capacity enabling commercial growth
  • Reducing interest rate sensitivity by 50% through targeted structural hedging 

Prior to this, he has held senior leadership roles such as the Global Head of Product Control & Valuation Methodology at Standard Chartered Bank, where he delivered the following high-impact initiatives:

  • USD $200m revenue uplift through innovation to the valuation models
  • Designing the Global Product Control Target Operating Model redesign which reduced operating costs by 20%.
  • Designing the SCB Prudential Valuation and Valuation in Resolution frameworks for the bank & advocating successfully for reduction in capital charges of 3% during COVID.

Mushahid is also Independent Non-Executive Director on the SCB Vietnam Board of Control and is recognised for driving commercial outcomes through disciplined financial strategy.

He holds Msc Finance from University of London and Msci Chemistry from University College London.
