IC Failure Analysis and Defects Characterisation Forum

Theme: Transformation of Defect Root Causation in the age of IoT

Synopsis: There are four main driving forces for the semiconductor industry. 1) The race to produce faster and smaller front-end devices; 2) Challenges and innovations in new packaging technology in light of product and system miniaturization, 3) proliferation in the diverse applications relating to IoT devices and their rapid paced evolution 4) increasing complexity of our systems and technologies in a competitive environment. Last year's edition of the forum, we addressed extensively about failure diagnostic on advanced packaging device challenges; this year we intend to focus on IoT.

By nature of IoT, the value of the chips are not measured just by its performance. The chips are being put to a multitude of targeted industries which include mobile, displays, automobiles, manufacturing, utilities, and others. Therefore, the other requirements of an IoT chip such as power consumption, durability, cost-effectiveness and turnaround time-to-production are integral components of the entire value chain. Failure analysis and defect characterization can play an important role to ensure the quality of a chip. Flaws as a result of either process or design constraints, or both, are inevitable in the early stages of a tapeout. Particularly, on the point of effective and efficient defect root causation, this forum seeks to broaden defect diagnostics perspectives and shares insights into the symbiotic relation between inline defect characterization and failure analysis in faster and more effective fault isolation in the semiconductor devices.

SYNOPSIS

Cost Effective Advanced Wafer Level Packaging Solutions for Multi Die System Integration

The continual drive for performance and product differentiation has created an advanced packaging inflection with the need for better and more efficient system integration. Advanced packaging for System Integration (SI), because of the versatility it offers as compared to System-on-Chip (SoC), is a viable solution. While heterogeneous integration with 2.5D-interposer or 3D has primarily been used for high end (large packages) applications, the introduction of Fan-Out wafer-level packaging (FOWLP) provides a more cost effective and versatile packaging scheme to realize packaged SI with recent demand being driven by high-end mobile and other high-performance applications that require multi-die packaging. To continue to drive adoption of packaged Si, the industry will need to address forthcoming technical challenges while developing new cost effective solutions to improve Cost of ownership (CoO), Electrical performance, Yield, and Reliability.

Product & System Level Testing Forum

Theme: Smart and Robust Testing with Big Data Analytics Solutions

Synopsis: Fundamentally Product and System Testing is a process of decision making based on data. Large amounts of data are being analyzed and decisions are made base on the Product requirement. Such sophisticated decision making systems require the ability to use data in a smart way. Especially in this complicated IOT Era, where test items coverage is huge resulting in longer Test-time and higher cost. Another key element is Robustness. New Testing system is needed to withstand high current, high voltage and high usage for the current IOT Era product. Thus, companies that can master Smart Data and Robust test systems will have a strong competitive edge in the new breed of semiconductor product/system testing. Testing will gradually move from reactive mode to a predictive mode.

Agenda for Event

SEMI Southeast Asia Charity Golf

This event marks the inaugural charity golf in conjunction with SEMICON Southeast Asia 2018. Ingrained in SEMI tradition of being the force for good for the electronics manufacturing supply chain, this event aims to make a small difference in similar vein of being a force for good for the unfortunate children whom suffered untoward circumstance of abused and abandonment.

It is hard to imagine someone intentionally hurting a child. Yet nearly 4500 children are abused between 2015-2016 in Malaysia alone. And these are only the reported incidents of child abuse — many more cases are unreported and undetected, often because children are afraid to tell somebody who can help. The most serious cases of child abuse can end in death.

Those who survive abused and abandonment may suffer emotional scars that can last long after the physical or emotional bruises have healed. Kids who are either abused or abandon are more likely to have problems building and maintaining relationships throughout their lives. They're also more likely to have low self-esteem, depression, thoughts of suicide and other mental health issues.

The healing journey for those who have experienced child abuse and neglect can be extremely painful. It is also possible for survivors to go on and have healthy and productive childhoods and adult lives. This healing journey begins with proper care, unyielding love and more importantly laying the foundation for these children to have a better future through education.

This charity golf hopes to galvanise the industry in support of helping such unfortunate children in their early recovery and more importantly showcase the unity of the industry against such abuse. With your support, SEMI Charity Golf, hopes to raise at least RM100,000 to the Good Samaritan Home located in Klang, Malaysia.

About Good Samaritan Home

Good Samaritan Home is a charitable children Home for the neglected, abused, abandoned and orphaned children. Its aim is to provide for the physical, spiritual and educational well being of the children. The Home is located in a quiet environment in Klang. Every effort is made to provide a Home-like atmosphere. Children are cares for living in “cottage”/home-style environment with house parents.

The Home started to operate officially in January, 1999 with 1 child and now we have 35 children (age ranging from 4- 23 years old), eight staff and we are also helping 40 other poor and needy children in our “Extension Program” which we help monthly by giving counseling, provisions and help in their children education. We have helps at least 100 other children in placing them with other caring center according to theirs needs. The Home also provides services to the unwed mother; this is done on a case by case.

A board of committee governs Good Samaritan Home and with their different professions they are committed to community services. The Home is also in good standing and is register with the welfare department.

Good Samaritan Home is:

• A Home for the Homeless children (orphans – loss of both parents)

• Love for the unloved children (derelict parents, abused)

• Security for the neglected children (abandoned)

Our Aims and Objectives:

• Provide shelter, food, clothing, education and tender love for the abused, abandoned, neglected and orphaned

• Provide godly, Home like atmosphere that the children can call their own

• Provide parent-child relationship and to build brotherhood among the children equipping them in their growth towards adulthood
